Catherine attended her first high profile as a guest of honor of Prince William. She was escorted by her mother and father, friend of William, Thomas van Straubenzee, secretaries, Jaime Lowther-Pinkerton and Helen Asprey, and two of his godfathers, King Constantine of Greece and Lord Romsey. Her appearance set off numerous rumours that an engagement was eminent. Other attendees included the Queen and the Duke of Edinburg, and the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, as well as other members of the royal family.

Catherine wore a bright red, long coat, over a black dress with lace trim. She wore black suede, knee-high, heeled boots with black hose, and a large, black, assymetrical box hat with bow. She carried a black clutch and wore black leather gloves.
