William and Catherine's official engagement portraits were released on December 11, 2010. The portraits were taken by Mario Testino, Princess Diana's favorite photographer. Catherine reportedly did her own make-up, and her hair was done by her longtime hair stylist, James Pryce, of  the Richard Ward Salon.

For the first, formal portrait, Catherine wore the Reiss "Nanette" dress, which features 3/4 sleeves, an asymmetric draped neck line, side pockets, and tulip hemline. The front has a ruffle and zipper that fastens the dress. The dress almost immediately sold out. It has since been re-released in the UK and the US, both selling out quickly. Catherine accessorized with Links of London "Hope Egg" earrings.
